As I was catching up on my reading yesterday, I came across a great article, The ABC's of Working With A Graphic Designer For The First Time. The interview with Eduardo Barrios, a graphic designer with Barrios Advertising, provided great information for clients looking to work with a graphic designer.
The article is a great insight into how most designers work and how to be successful in working with your graphic designer. If a partnership in the design is present and working well, designs seem to convey the idea and concept best. Sometimes designers are seen as completely separate which makes it more difficult for the designer to get the information and feel of the company that is needed to make the final design complete. Without that insight the message is much harder to convey.
Because every client and product is unique, I have always believed that as a graphic designer, the more I know about my clients and their project/business, the better the designs can become. That's one of my favorite things about graphic design; getting to be a part of the team. When working as a team, things run more smoothly and beautiful designs are produced!
From the initial meeting to the final design, each person involved (clients, colleagues and myself) is learning something new. I feel that I have learned so much with the multitude of client's I have worked with and I love communicating that information to the world through the design. It makes my job very enjoyable!

No Stock Templates Here - Just Unique Designs
In today's online based world, it is easy to find a stock template for anything from a logo to a complete website. A lot of times, companies believe a stock template is the best route because it is cheaper and quicker. However, a stock template does not make your business stand-out like it needs to, especially in the competitive world in which we live.
The beauty (and my love) of graphic design is being able to come up with a design for each project, without a template. With a little research, sketching and computer design work, I can create a unique design with my specific client in mind.
Your company's image is seen in your designed pieces, whether it is your logo, business cards, website or collateral. You want each person who views them to remember your company, don't let it blend in with the crowd.

Quote me Thursday!
"The aim is not to give the client what he thinks he wants, but what he never even dreamt he wanted."
- The Art of Looking Sideways (p. 213)
What a great motto for a design company. It is my belief that it is our job, as designers, to take what the client is looking for and transform it into a design that is above and beyond their imagination. Our work becomes their image and it needs to be perfect! There is a reason clients come to designers, they want someone with the creative mind and talent to make something that will convey what they want and need in a catchy, professional way.
I always strive to make each of my designs, unique and professional. I love being a designer because I get to work with so many different types of clients. Their different projects help me to grow as a designer. Each project brings on a whole different set of parameters that I have to work within and around. Pushing me to think, sketch, research and find the best solution for each unique client. These aspects are what make me LOVE my job!
